What does a medical physicist do?

If someone asked you, “What do you do?”, could you explain what a medical physicist does in a way that anyone could understand?

This year, we are challenging medical physicists and students to explain what medical physicists do and why our work matters, without relying on technical language.

Language: Entries are welcome in any language. Entries submitted in a language other than English must include an English translation. Videos must include English subtitles or be accompanied by an English transcript. The English translation will not count toward the 75-word limit.

Be creative, keep it simple, and imagine you are explaining your work to someone who has never heard of medical physics.

Tip: Start with a longer explanation of what a medical physicist does, then refine it to five minutes, two minutes, and finally 60 seconds. This exercise can help you identify the clearest and most important parts of your message.

Three winners will be announced on the International Day of Medical Physics, November 7, 2026, and each winner will receive a pair of MPWB socks.
